On the map above we have set up an alternative golden circle route for you self-drivers. We recommend starting around 10am in the morning going from Reykjavik to Thingvellir first and then head over to Kerid to see some volcanic kraters. Next stop is in Reykholt and Cafe Mika’s restaurant for a fantastic lunch. In Cafe Mika place you find info on meeting point. Its a 10 min drive from Reykholt down to the riverbank of Hvita River. Now you are ready to jump into the jet boat and get your blood pumping before going to Geysir/Gullfoss for some more sightseeing. There are several roads going back to Reykajvik, but we listed the one going to Fludir, the scenery from Gullfoss to Fludir is stunning, and if you like – you can visit the Secret Lagoon for some natural hotspring action before heading into Reykjavik/ or to your final destination.
